Bluff National Park was the brain child of Charles Lloyd a teacher at Grosvenor Boys High School. Charles lived and worked overlooking the beautiful Bluff valley filled with bird life and he witnessed how quickly the development of houses was encroaching on this sensitive eco system.

He approached a friend Lester Schoeman a prominent Attorney in Durban with his idea of building a golf course, a project that would not only conserve this sensitive area but would be an asset to the community. Lester Schoeman agreed and with the help of a Bluff Councilor Dick Burgess they managed to obtain a lease on the wetland that the course is built on. Alan Barnard a well known Golf Course designer was approached to design the course and in 1984, 105 people who became founder members, paid R120.00 each and with these proceeds a tractor was purchased, this tractor was used to level the site. Construction of the golf course commenced in 1985 utilizing tog labour and the 1st nine was opened in 1987. The second nine was completed in 1989.

For 10 years there was no club house and members shared premises with Bluff Country Club (now Harlequins) in 1995 members agreed to pay a levy and the proceeds were used to build the current club house which was opened in March 1997. The club emblem is the Grey Heron and you will be sure to see a number of these graceful birds stalking the fairways and rough in search of food, only one of the many species of birds that make the course their home.
